Elegant pastle wedding in Sorrento

A wedding in Sorrento is something that you can not forget so easily, especially when the venue is such a wonderful Italian villa like Villa Silvana and the bride is getting ready at the Hotel Bellevue Syrene, while the groom’s preparation is at the beautiful Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. I must admit, I’m really like to do a job like that that takes me in the most beautiful and charming places all around Italy. But I’m also lucky because everytime I discover beautiful people that beyond their good taste and their style are united by a great sense of connection and love. Beautiful soluls with whom I proud and honored to work with. This time I met Maricel and Mark from the United States, and I could be witnessof their love and the love they are surrounded by family and friends. A special thank you to Emma of Emma Events for designing and planning this beautiful wedding and to Pierpaolo and his fantastic Lumina Film Lab for being my second shooter. The images that you see are taken with both digital and analogue cameras.

Eloping in Sicily – A sneak peek

Sicily could be a very passionate and sweet land, especially when you choose it as your destination for a secret elopement. Natalie and James decided to get married in Sicily from Australia, and this was a real surprise for both their families indeed. First they got married in Sicily and then having another celebration with family and friends in Australia. They’re keen traveller, and this time they was impressed by the beauty of Sicily, by its nature and its art – here you can find art everywhere, especially in antique palaces, in the alleys and in all the wonderful churches. The wedding style of the couple for the day was elegant but simple, in a perfect Sicilian mood. I loved the bride’s dress made in Sangallo lace and groom’s jacket in a beautiful and original blue tone. They looked like a couple of strangers in Sicily in a old movie, and they was a beautiful Australian couple of spouses in Sicily indeed!                           taormina-wedding-elopement (3) taormina-wedding-elopement (10)taormina-wedding-elopement (11)taormina-wedding-elopement (21)taormina-wedding-elopement (32)taormina-wedding-elopement (34)taormina-wedding-elopement (50) taormina-wedding-elopement (53)taormina-wedding-elopement (61)taormina-wedding-elopement (60)

Elegant Tuscany elopement | Wedding photography Tuscany

An elegant and also natural wedding in Tuscany is something beautiful and easy to have. It’s easy because in Tuscany you find everything you need for an unforgettable wedding: art, history, nature itself. This is the elopement in Tuscany of an Australian couple, Dianna and Matthew. They came in Lucca with the purpose to getting married and meanwhile discovering and enjoying the beauties of the place. Lucca offered them some jewels like churches and ancient palaces and beautiful alleys – and the famous Torre Guinigi, from which you can see the town in all its splendor. We walked to the very top of the tower, having a fantastic view of Lucca’ antique skyline; we also walked through the Tuscany countryside, having the most beautiful and classic view for a really amazing elopement.       wedding-photographer-in-tuscany (13)wedding-photographer-in-tuscany (12) wedding-photographer-in-tuscany (14) wedding-photographer-in-tuscany (18) wedding-photographer-in-tuscany (20) wedding-photographer-in-tuscany (25)

Eloping in Europe – Vintage style elopement in Capri

Eloping in Capri in October means to find sunny days a go-go and tourists from all over the world. I’m always lucky because my couples that come to Italy for weddings are usually happy to follow me through not-so-conventional paths, far from the crazy crowd. This time, with Christine and Domenic, was my time to follow them. After the getting ready we have gone up to Anacapri through the narrow streets of the island with a crazy taxi driver, and then to the Solaro mount, up with the chairlift (amazing stuff, I have to repeat it one day or another). It was a beautiful and moving wedding ceremony, celebrated by Rosa, one of the sweetest women on Earth. Seeing that panorama while the spouses were getting married, swearing and sharing eternal love on the top of the world, has been one of the most beautiful experiences in my whole life. Details and expressions of two gentle and particular souls with a very vintage mood.

Why I shoot on film

A declaration of love to film photography

There’s a reason why I shoot on film, a very particular reason to me. I really don’t know if film photography is better than digital, I only know that I love to shoot on film. If you’ve ever seen a photo taken on film, you’ve probably noticed that film photography has at least two special, concrete “features” on its side – the same old story that every film photographer will tell you again and again. Everybody knows that film handles lights exceptionally well and that color looks great with film – every film has its own particular way to make colors vivid, or bright or special in any way – perhaps these are the reasons why film photography is so trendy these days, especially in wedding photography.

 bridal-portrait-on-film (1)

Film photographers – and some clients as well – know that there are A LOT of other reasons why film is a great choice. For example:
* (You already know that) With film, post processing time is halved. Shooting film, my life has improved both as a professional photographer and as a human being. I can spend my time doing real important things for me and my clients, not staying all day long in front of a computer trying to be up-to-date with my editing.
* Another old (but true) story: film forces me to be a better photographer. I have to better understand light, I have to better compose/select in camera and not on a computer screen, I have to choose when to shoot, not spending all the time doing click, click, click, trying to find a moment.
* Moment. Yes, moment. This word reminds of another word: present. With film I have to stay present. I have to live in the present moment, with my eyes and all the senses wide opened. No better way to go mindfulness, to enhance intuition. A real way to concentrate and to meditate. Zen experienced in everyday life.
* Film photography enriches my life, because it allows me to improve a series of personal qualities. I have to be patient. I have to stay concentrate and look before I take every single shot. I have to feel and empathize with my subjects, whatever they are. I have to slow down. I have to stay ready and, at the same time, remain calm. Film is an exercise for the soul.
* Film comes with a special mood, a more complex feel, to discover little by little. Is a way to honor time and memories and all the important things in life.

Mostly, I shoot on film because of my great love for that little bit of imperfection and that kind of surprise that makes every photo unique. Not to mention the mood that is a blend of joy, nostalgia and splendor. But, most of all, I shoot analogue because I love that film is something definitive. Let me make a sort of comparison in order to explain my thought. With digital photography, I edit my raw files using presets, gradients, effects, changing the colors and post-processing. It’s like an obsession: it almost seems that we (photographers, but also clients) have to change our mind depending on the season and on our tastes in that particular moment. Today is dark and moody, in two months the same photo looks better with a light and airy look. Today color, then black and white. All is fluid, all is too way relative and virtual, like there is no memory, like there is nothing made to last. Instead, I want something made to last. I don’t want to change the same photo every time. I don’t want to follow trends, changing my mind with the wind. I want something that is already perfect with its inner, beautiful, imperfection. I shoot on film because, to me, is a different way to conceive photography and life. Is something definitive, something that you can’t change, something that is really “forever”, really timeless, in many ways. This is what I love most in analogue photography: is definitive, timeless indeed. And in that specific “time”, I can find everything I need.

Cinque Terre wedding, part two: eternal love in Monterosso

Getting married in Monterosso for Corielle and Glenn has meant for them being barefoot mostly of the day (Corielle even during the ceremony), and being surrounded by parents and a bunch of dear friends. The couple asked me to follow them during their wedding in Monterosso, in Cinqueterre. I was very moved by the love between these two, and the fact that they were so excited about the fact to getting married in this little town with a very private and emotional ceremony even confirmed my sensation about their mutual feelings. I could say that this little town has two faces, like many places in Italy indeed. The first face is the one built around turism, especially in the oldtown. You find good restaurants, lot of cute souvenirs shops. The second face of Monterosso is far more wild, is the one out of the control of the human being: the nature, the sea, the mountains that surround the town, as in the whole Cinque Terre coast. No need to say that Monterosso is a not a big city, so its various sides blen together finally. Monterosso it’s an adorable fishermen’s village where you can find ancient traditions still alive – old and young fishermen are everywhere in town the indeed.

Check out how Corielle and Glenn begun their wedding day

Romantic destination wedding in Maratea

This was not the first time I photographed a wedding in Maratea, and I have to say that everytime I’m amazed by the beauty and the charm of these places. This time I was in a location straight on the rocks, with beautiful descendants terraces that leads to the sea. Liz and Philipp are the bride and groom that with family and close friends came from England to celebrate their wedding in Italy. The whole mood of the day was so relaxed and sweet, with a warm breeze and the kids playing around. I loved the typical English irony of Philipp and Liz’friends, a really nice and fun party – as you can guess from the pictures! I loved this wedding so much indeed, it was intimate but also very lively at the same time!

Villa Cimbrone wedding sneak peek – on film

Sometimes it happens that you photograph a wonderful wedding or an event, and you can’t show anything but a little sneak peek. And this is the case. I have been in Ravello in spring – yes, I know this little and fantastic town very well – and I have been in the treasure of the Amalfi Coast: Villa Cimbrone. I was there as a second shooter for my colleague Alessandro – thank you Alessandro for such a nice experience together! I will try to show you something about the wedding of T&J, but please remember that I can’t show you all! Anyway, the beauty of the day, of this wedding, of Ravello, and of Villa Cimbrone catch the eye! I’ve taken some pictures with my 35mm film camera and also with my beloved Hasselblad. I hope that through the photos you will enjoy the atmosphere and the relaxed and romantic mood of the coast, as we did in person.

Villa Cimbrone – The getting ready

Villa Cimbrone – Couple portraits

Then we moved back to Villa Cimbrone to have a feast with family and friends. Before the reception we and the bride and groom walked through the beautiful gardens of Villa Cimbrone for some couple portraits.

This has been a very intimate and relaxed wedding and I loved that way to celebrate love.

Simple elopement under the sun of Capri

Capri is a charming island indeed, and having an elopement there could mean have the chance to discover different and hidden aspects of that place. Those who really know and love Capri know that the island is great not only because of its glamourous Piazzetta or the beautiful and luxury hotels, but also (and perhaps, especially) because of the sea, the view and for all its wonderful natural scenarios. Gwen and Hector, from Canada, fallen in love with not only the lush part of Capri, but also with its wild one, so it was quite natural for them to choose to go for some sort of trip dedicated to the sun, the sea and the nature. We enjoyed a very long walking through the white alleys, in the caves, down the footpaths and then passing through the Faraglioni stacks on the boat. Of course we all loved the tour. If you have in mind to visit Capri for some days, don’t forget to plan a trip around the island and a walk into the town, in Anacapri, to the lighthouse or on the Solaro mount taking the chairlift. This is an island full of surprises – for example the beautiful noble Villa San Michele, with its stunning panorama – so while you’re there in one of the fantastic hotels, don’t miss the chance to visit not-so-traditional paths.
